Pike County Jail OFFICIALLY CLOSED ON AUGUST 4, 2005
The Pike County Jail which was built in 1861 Was officially closed on August 4, 2005 at 12:00pm. All inmates must now be transported directly to the Ross County Jail and other jails at time of arrest.
This year the daily population of inmates is 36.7 inmates per day. At at cost of $45.00 to $65.00 per day this has placed a burden upon the County. The Sheriff, Commissioners, and Judges are working to together to solve this ever going problem of inmate housing.
It appears that a new Jail in in Site.
The Pike County Sheriff's Office has been moved to the new Market Street annex (116 So. Market St.
According to records at the Bureau of Adult Detention the Pike County Jail was the oldest operating jail in the State up to its closing on August 4th 2005.
