PIKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

THE PIKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION IS MADE UP OF 6 DISPATCH\CORRECTIONS OFFICERS.  THESE OFFICERS ARE CALLED UPON TO HANDLE CALLS FROM THE CITIZENS OF PIKE COUNTY AND DISPATCH OFFICERS TO THESE CALLS.
THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER ALSO HANDLES ALL 911 CALLS IN THE COUNTY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CITY OF WAVERLY.  THEY DISPATCH FOR 9 FIRE DEPARTMENTS, 7 EMS UNITS, T
WO POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND ALL SHERIFF DEPUTIES.

THE DISPATCHERS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO ANSWER ALL EMERGENCY CALLS ALONG WITH ALL NON-EMERGENCY PHONE CALLS THAT ARE RECEIVED BY THE 911 COMMUNICATIONS CENTER.

WHEN THE CALLS ARE RECEIVED BY THE 911 SYSTEM THE COMPUTER SCREEN SHOWS WHAT LAW ENFORCEMENT, EMS AND FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT COVERS THE AREA, ALONG WITH THE INFORMATION ON THE CALLER.  IT WILL ALSO SHOW WHAT MEDICAL PROBLEMS ARE IN THE HOME IF THE 911 COORDINATOR WAS NOTIFIED OF SUCH.  THE 911 CENTER IS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH A TDD UNIT (TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEVICE FOR THE DEAF).

DISPATCHERS ARE ALSO CHARGED WITH  MONITORING SECURITY SYSTEMS IN THE COURTHOUSE AND GOVERNMENT CENTER AND SEEING THAT THE RUOK COMPUTER IS OPERATING CORRECTLY.
